DE Weekly: Welcome aboard

WELCOME ABOARD
Hello, friends, and welcome aboard to the first edition of the Daily Existentialist Weekly newsletter (DE Weekly for short).
I’d like to take this time to introduce myself, and lay out a bit of what you can expect each Monday morning from this newsletter.
First: why I felt compelled to create a website where I write about existentialism in the first place…
I was first exposed to existentialism in high school, when my Ethics and English Literature teachers assigned some select books to my classes.
We started with Sartre (of course), covered a little bit of Camus, Heidegger, and some others. The philosophy interested me from the start, and stuck with me. It wasn’t until I was in college, however, that I really took an interest.
One thing my parents always told me was that no matter how many I asked for, the one thing they would never refuse to buy me was a book.
So one Christmas, I ended up getting about seven or eight books I asked for, all about existentialism. And the rest, as they say, is history…
I had the idea of starting the Daily Existentialist for a number of years, and finally decided the time was right.
I wanted to share my thoughts on the philosophy and the literature that has interested me and inspired me so much, and I wanted to create a community that shared the same love of learning about it as I do.
And that’s why you’re here. Thank you for joining me.
What’s coming…
As I said at the top of this email, this is just the first edition of DE Weekly. Every Monday from here on out, you’ll get a fresh dose of existentialism delivered straight to your inbox. And if you miss any, you can check out the Email Archives on the DE website to read all past issues.
Look forward to the best insights from decades of existentialist literature, centuries of existentialist-adjacent philosophy, and even insight into existentialism’s influence in pop culture–in movies, TV, music, and more (hint: it’s had a huge influence).
Anyway, I think that’s plenty for a proper introduction. Click here to shoot me a line if you want to talk, or share anything you’d like to see or would like me to cover in future issues.
Welcome aboard.
Sincerely,
Brandon J. Seltenrich
